Whitehead Announces Campaign Team

Republican State Senator Jim Whitehead (R-Evans), candidate for the 10th Congressional District in Georgia, announced today his campaign consulting team and staff.

Said Whitehead, One of the lessons I learned playing football at the University of Georgia was that it takes a team to win. Senator Jim Whitehead, Candidate
Jim Whitehead currently serves as the State Senator for the 24th Georgia Senate District which is comprised of Columbia, Glascock, Lincoln, McDuffie, Wilkes, and parts of Elbert and Warren counties. In the Senate, he is Chair of the Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee and Vice Chair of the Transportation Committee.

Sen. Whitehead was born in 1942 in Augusta, Georgia. He attended schools in Richmond County and graduated from Richmond Academy in 1960. He then spent 4 years in Athens where he attended the University of Georgia and lettered in Football and Track.

Whitehead has lived in the Augusta area all his life and in Columbia County since 1964. He has been married to Peggy since 1964 and they have three children - Jim Jr., Beth and Bo. They have two daughters-in-law, Bridget and Kelli. Sen. Whitehead is the owner of a successful business - Jim Whitehead Tire & Auto.

Sen. Whitehead served as a Columbia County Commissioner from 1995 to 2002 and was Chairman of the Commission for two and a half years. He is a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and active in numerous other community and civic affairs.


Vic Gresham, Conquest Communications

Gresham, who resides in Henrico County, Virginia, has three children.

Sonny Scott, Anthem Media
Anthem Media partner Sonny Scott brings 16 years of hands on experience developing, and executing, winning media strategies for Republican candidates, producing hundreds of television and radio ads.

He has worked as Director of Research for the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) and later served as a general consultant to both the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) and the NRSC.

In 2006, Sonny choreographed the media strategy for Casey Cagle's come from behind victory over renowned political strategist Ralph Reed in the GOP primary before winning the general election to become the first Republican Lt. Governor in Georgia history. He has also served as the Media Consultant to Georgia Congressmen Lynn Westmoreland, Phil Gingrey, and Tom Price, and former Georgia Congressman Max Burns.

Sonny also played integral roles in U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist's (R-TN) victory over 18-year incumbent U.S. Senator Jim Sasser, and former U.S. Senator Paul Coverdell's (R-GA) victory over 16-year incumbent politician U.S. Senator Wyche Fowler.

A native of Virginia, Sonny is a graduate of Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. He and his wife Chaney have two daughters and reside in Nashville, Tennessee.


Brian Tringali, The Tarrance Group
Brian Tringali is a partner with The Tarrance Group, one of the most respected and successful Republican survey research and strategy teams in America today.

Tringali has been a senior advisor to many successful statewide and congressional Republican campaigns throughout the country, including former Congressman Charlie Norwood. Tringali is currently an adjunct professor for George Washington Universitys Graduate School of Political Management.

Jay Williams, The Stoneridge Group
In just under 7 years, Jay Williams has transformed his startup company, the Stoneridge Group, from a one man outfit into an industry leader with a client roster of virtually all of Georgia's premiere officeholders and candidates  including Congressmen Phil Gingrey, Tom Price, Lynn Westmoreland, Nathan Deal, former Congressmen Charlie Norwood and Max Burns, Governor Sonny Perdue, Lt. Governor Casey Cagle, and dozens of Republican state legislators.

Named one of Campaigns & Elections magazine's "Rising Stars," Williams has been awarded the prestigious Pollie six times for his work on Georgia political campaigns, and his firm has been honored with numerous Campaigns & Elections magazines "Best Client List" distinctions.

Joel McElhannon will serve as the General Consultant for the campaign. For this short special election, he will also serve as the day-to-day Campaign Manager.

McElhannon is well known in Georgia for his work providing general consulting services to Republican candidates and help building the new Republican Majority in the state. To date, McElhannon counts as clients almost 1/3 of the Georgia Republican Senate Caucus and dozens of Republican leaders across Georgia.

In 2002, McElhannon ran Bill Heaths victorious campaign that defeated Tom Murphy, the legendary Democrat House Speaker whose rule spanned over three decades. In 2006, he also ran Casey Cagles successful campaign to become Georgias first Republican Lt. Governor defeating Ralph Reed in the Republican primary and former Democrat State House leader Jim Martin in the general election.


Amelia Elizabeth Brown
Amelia Elizabeth Brown, the daughter of Phil and Debra Brown, of Washington, GA, is an honor graduate of Washington-Wilkes High School, and a 2004 graduate of the University of Georgia. After serving in a variety of positions in state government, Amelia was hired as the campaign manager for former Congressman Charlie Norwood in 2005 to run his 2006 re-election campaign and coordinate his political operations.


Laura Dunaway, Capitol Strategy Group
Laura Willis Dunaway has quickly established herself as a diligent and highly successful political finance consultant. Dunaway joined Capitol Strategy Group in early 2005 as a partner. She specializes in fundraising, marketing and event planning. Dunaways current clients include Congressman Lynn Westmoreland and State Senator Mitch Seabaugh.

During the 2006 election cycle Dunaway worked jointly with Diana Kincaid for former Congressmen Max Burns campaign for Georgias 12th District and former Congressman Mac Collins campaign for the 8th District of Georgia. ((Dunaways primary focus was raising funds for Congressman Lynn Westmoreland during the 2004 election cycle, ranking number four nationally in fundraising among candidates running in a race for an open seat. During the 2002 election cycle, she was a finance assistant for Congressman Saxby Chambliss historic election to the United States Senate, playing a significant roll in raising over $6 million to unseat the incumbent U.S. Senator. Dunaway is a graduate of the University of Georgia with a major in Speech Communication. She is a member of the Junior League of Augusta, serves on the board of the Augusta Ballet, and is married to Davis Dunaway.


Brendan Belair
Brendan Belair graduated from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY with a degree in political science. After two years withTitan Corporation as a defense industry analyst, Brendan started with the Office of Congressman Charlie Norwood. During his three yearsof employment with the late Congressman, Mr. Belair handled energy,appropriations,veterans and defense issues. He also has extensive campaign experience, most recently taking time off to work on the Mac Collins for Congress campaign.

Thomas Worthy
W. Thomas Worthy, of Carrollton, Georgia, is a graduate of Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, where he received a bachelors degree in political science. He completed internships at the White House and the 2004 Republican National Convention in New York, and after his graduation, he was hired as staff assistant in the office of the late Representative Charlie Norwood (GA-10). He served two years on the staff of Congressman Norwood until the Congressmans death and most recently held the position of the Congressmans Personal Assistant, Scheduler, and Legislative Assistant for tax, banking, immigration, and trade issues. In the fall of 2006, Mr. Worthy took time off of his Congressional duties to serve on Max Burns 2006 Congressional Campaign where he helped manage the campaign operations in Richmond, Burke, Warren, Glascock, Hancock, Washington, Taliaferro, and Jefferson counties.
